I Asked X to Test My App. Nobody Did.
1 min read
On 15 October I posted on X asking people to try the staging build of Utshob, my event ticketing app, and tell me what breaks.
Nobody did. Zero.
Looking back, it makes sense. I asked strangers for their time before I had given them anything. No story about why it exists, no screenshot, no reason to care. A link and a request.
So the bug list from my own staging pass is still the only feedback I have. That pass found real problems: the home page showed two different sets of stats, hero and footer disagreeing; two events entered by hand were about six hours off, one acoustic evening listed at 2 AM; demo data with impossible dates; empty Policy and Gallery sections on event pages; a search placeholder cut off on mobile. Fixing those is useful. It is not the same as a stranger getting lost on the home page.
What I am doing instead
- Give first. Post what I built and what went wrong, daily, with no ask. The ask comes once a month at most.
- Make the ask smaller. “Open this link on your phone and tell me the first thing that confused you” is a two-minute job. “Test my app” is an afternoon.
- Ask people who already care. Event hosts in Dhaka want a ticketing tool that works in Bangla. They are the testers, not developers on X.
This site is part of the same change. Writing the build log here instead of only on X means the story exists somewhere I own, and the next tester call has something behind it.
